Ok we haven't got a Sainsbury's yet and only have a Co-op/Somerfield fit for the 1970's but Nairn is an ideal spot for a couple of hours exploration even in the heart of winter. The Leopold street area now has two new shops worthy of a look and just around the corner is the heart of the cafe/restaurant district with other interesting shops to explore. Why not come for a first-hand browse instead of a virtual one?
Great to see new shops and good luck to the new ventures. However although many Nairn shops are clean inside, the outside appearance is poor and uninviting. A scrub-up and lick of paint would attract even more customers. Shop fronts used to be swept and washed down every morning by proud owners/staff.
ReplyDeleteWell I certainly still wash my front every morning!
ReplyDeleteThis pictre brings to the fore yet another memory.
ReplyDeleteI believe the shop was occupied by the Buttercup Dairy before the war and Kate Stephens covered a large area of the countryside around Nairn in a little Austin 7 van selling the dairy products.
I was talking to Hamish and he tells me that he thought the new shop in Leopold Street was the old Buttercup but I put him right - the shop in the picture was the Highland Bar and the buttercup was the next one up between the bar and the butchers. It is now part of the butchers and before that was Do-Do Donald's Bakery Store.
