The Herald in a tourism article refers once again to the tripadvisor.com prediction:
'Nairn, on the Moray coast, is classed as one of the top 10 emerging destinations, joining locations such as Garmisch-Partenkirch in Germany, Dangriga in Belize and Rosario in Argentina.
A growing number of visitors have been flocking to Nairn in recent years, with its reputation boosted after it hosted Tilda Swinton’s Ballerina Ballroom Cinema Of Dreams film festival in 2008.
Its championship golf courses, seafront and proximity to the site of the Battle of Culloden all help to make it popular.'

Great news - but it only adds to my frustration. There have been numerous ideas for promoting and improving Nairn as a destination. We have fought over the provision of Tourist Information and if it wasn't for the generosity of the Community Centre, we'd have had none.
I have concluded that there is no actual mechanism for taking forward ideas that would enhance the town. No one in any position of authority or influence has any interest in tourism. Highland Council's imagination only extends as far as looking at what to cut, rather than reviewing what could be done better.
As one who for a long time had such high hopes, I now despair. Even when it's handed to us on a plate, those who could make it happen, simply sit on their hands.
A Royal Burgh of Nairn Community Council would be a vehicle that could convey our hopes, ambition, talent etc as a town.
It is worth a try. Please submit a submission to the review team - details in the side bar.
In the years to come we will be up against it, Highland Council will be able to do less and less for us (even if the Inverness power block were to allow resources to come our way). We will have to do things for ourselves in the future.
Let's bring a bit more democracy to the town!
Time for a Royal Burgh of Nairn Community Council!
Aye, Edinburgh, up there with Nairn!
I was over to Nairn from Canada twice last summer and loved the area. If I could get a work visa and job in Nairn I would pack my bags in an instant.
(not once was I mistaken for an American :))
I heard a lot of people visit Nairn so they can try our renowned swimming pool as featured on Facebook!
Plus I live here. With my distinctive, yet undulating profile and unusual, occasionally baffling ideas. What more could any self-respecting tourist-in-search-of-something-off-the-beaten-track ever want?
A trouser-press, perhaps? sure I can rustle one up. My ex-hub was swore by his, amongst other things. Until I stick his damn head in it - HO HO!!
The national members magazine for the "Caravan Club" has promoted Nairn book and Arts festival as a coming event.
As well as the beautiful Highland seaside town of Nairn, recently voted second best tourist destination in the world, well done the Caravan Club.
I think it is fantastic that this accolade is being promoted by more and more organisations, and well done to the book & arts festival organisers!!
It would be really monumental if Highland Council capitalised on our fame as a town and showed a bit more support to fundamentaly the "second best tourist destination in the world"
Sorry Inverness..!!
