Nairn was never a one horse town

Recently we've heard Highland Councillors talking about how they would like to raise Council Tax. Perhaps it is an ideal time to reflect on how taxes were levied in the past. It is interesting to see who could afford a horse in 1797. Thanks to Irene for another of her wee gems from her research into Nairnshire's past. (picture will enlarge).
