Exclusive - paddle boat rentals for the River Nairn next season?

Picture will enlarge. The Gurn understands that an application for financial support will soon be going before Nairn's Community Councils. Word on the street is that the paddle boats will be " 'Light touch' and sympathetic to the existing environment."

The river Nairn is a surprisingly fast flowing river and the harbour is quite busy. Just where is this paddling going to take place and why should it be funded from the public purse?

Excellent idea, the river is hardly used for leisure at present and this would make a great attraction, perhaps the new train could bring passengers directly to the boats?

I always thought it was a shame that Inverness canoe club didn't get to use the river, and going back a good few years what a shame the maggot was filled in. Apart from being a useful flood plane it would have made a great boating facility

Looking at the paddle boats would the person who is financing the River/Harbour venture be a Swaninfesta?

Will there be any duck shape boats?

At high tide you could paddle around swan island and get close to the birds

  8. Duck shaped boats... mmm I really love that idea. Just imagine a fleet of giant-sized yellow ducks being carried at a rate of knots out into the vast expanse of the Moray Firth, like some mad kind of Water Fowl Armarda? Fantastic. Let's make it happen.
