Nairn to Cawdor 10K

A couple of hours after the Coast to Coasters get away the 10K got under way at 11.00 a.m. Picture will enlarge and a few more pictures here. Compared to the 750 that got away at 8.00 a.m. numbers were quite small for the 10K. An observer that saw the earlier start pass the harbour commented that although the Bailey Bridge is closed to cars it was ok for several hundred runners to be on it at the same time - good point when you think about it isn't it?

  1. The Coast to Coast is a great event, both for the competitors and the town, but I don't see the 10k to Cawdor surviving next year. I only counted around 47 runners, down from a still fairly measly 82 last year. Having entered last year it's not a great course, and compared to the Moray 10k series £16 is a hefty entry fee for just a medal, no goody bag or sandwiches and cakes afterwards.

  2. It's a pity that Greg, maybe some way can be found to remarket this part of the event? Reduce the price to a fiver and children free? It would be excellent to see another 750 or set off on the 10K.

Talking of marketing, how many Nairn folk and businesses were aware that the Coast to Coast was taking place with so many people visiting from outwith Nairn. Certainly some of the visiting competitors didn't seem to think it was well known locally. I'm told this year's event was bigger than last year's so if that trend continues into 2012 it might be worth making more of a splash about it in advance. But well done to the Provost for turning out twice (at least) in full fig to welcome the participants and wish them good luck.
