Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, will today (09 June) pay a visit to Nairn Town and County Hospital and the Primary Care Centre where he will meet staff from both health and social care.
During his tour of the facility, which reopened in 2010 following a £12m refurbishment, the Minister will visit the GP Practice as well as meeting with staff who can talk to him about both outpatient and inpatient care.

He will also visit the integrated Children’s services and integrated Older Adult services, where he will meet with the Social Work managers and the district nursing team.

Dr Adrian Baker of Nairn Healthcare Group explained that the visit will allow the Minister to see how having health and social work staff in the one area is improving the quality of care for patients.

He said: “We are delighted to be able to offer integrated care, in and out of hours to our local population.

“The ability to admit and treat locally along with integrating the health and social teams will deliver real benefits for patients.

Our excellent health and social care teams are able to provide services which are continually responding to our changing population needs.”

Health Secretary Alex Neil said: “This is an excellent example of an integrated health and social care setting that brings together multi-disciplinary support from primary, secondary and social care.

“Having everything under one roof has huge benefits and allows staff to work together in a more joined-up and integrated way, resulting in the best possible care for patients.

“The Scottish Government is integrating health and social care to make sure that people get the care they need, in the right place at the right time, ensuring it supports people to live in their own homes and communities for as long as possible. Integrated care arrangements like the ones provided in Nairn are a great example of the type of joined-up working that improves people’s lives.”
