The Week Ahead

Tuesday night is River Community Council night and the Sandown Charrette is up for discussion plus the Nairn by-pass and a talk from a Connecting Carers rep. On Wednesday it is the Westies and they will also be discussing the Charrette, the town centre and planning issues. It'll be interesting to see what they have to say. Both meetings are in the Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. Cawdor CC also meet tomorrow (13th) again a 7.30 p.m start.

Murd will be heading to West and River campaigning for improved access to the Firhall Bridge. Gurnites will recall the support expressed at the joint CC meeting for Murd's long-running campaign.

Murd told the Gurn that he is hoping the CCs will have some suggestions on obtaining funding that would enable much needed ramps to be built on either side of the bridge. He is asking supporters to please keep lobbying community councillors and Highland ones too in a push to get the bridge sorted in this Jubilee year. "A Cameron never shall yield" is a phrase a young Murd picked up in his TA days (picture above) and it certainly seems appropriate to describe the older Murd's efforts to get the Firhall Bridge improved.

Why not pop along on to see what the usual suspects are up to?

There's a lot of army engineers coming to what was RAF Kinloss soon, perhaps they'd like to tackle the bridge as one of their community projects?

Could they also tackle the bridge at the Harbour as well as its long overdue. It is a (legal right) that if any building or bridge in a state of disrepair and a danger to the public they must by law have it repaired so it is safe to a certain level for public use. I think it is a disgrace they have left the two bridges to get into the state that they are in now. They can find funding no problem for other things around the town why cant they repair the both bridges urgently in need of repair. Well done Murd for speaking up for yourself and not letting them brush this matter of the Firhall Bridge away as they would be more than happy to do so. I wish you good luck. Maybe you might get a sub when they sell the land at Sandown.

Maybe time for another Gurn poll, but could I make a plea for the harbour bridge (Bailey bridge) just to be repaired so it's just fit for pedestrians. It's such a joy to be able to walk and stand on this bridge without the danger of traffic. I would suggest that there is no need for vehicle access anymore, if there was it would have been repaired years ago. On a bridge wish list it would also be great if the sewerage bridge could be widened, again so folk could freely stand and look over the river

  4. Try your councillors - it's the golden hour (or golden three months) between now and the May elections :-)
