    Many of the young lads singing would be of the age of those they are singing about which adds even more power to the words.

    Written by the great songsmith Eric Bogle from Peebles. He deliberately portrayed McBride as a young Irishman to counter anti-Irish prejudice prevalent in the UK in 1975.
