Duncan played at the launch of the Book and Arts Festival programme for 2013. He will back playing at the festival on Weds 4th September with Kin  -  08.30pm - 10.15pm at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre

Meanwhile down by the Sandancer...

One of our regular unreliable sources has filed a report of a motorist stopping down by to dump piles of grass cuttings at the Sandancer wall. We will update you with more later perhaps once our correspondent has made further investigations.

Hope to have a video up for you soon Gurnshire. Heard last minute on the grapevine that there was a gig going down over in the Courthouse this evening and yes indeed, there was a huge gathering for the launch of the programme of the Book and Arts Festival 2013. There was a short speech from Elizabeth Finlay and then radio personality Nicky Marr did a turn with an entertaining run through the contents of the programme. More later including video and pictures. 

Moss-side road playpark development initiative

Suburban Community Council have high hopes that a state of the art playpark costing up to 40K can be installed on the Moss-side play area. At their recent meeting the subbies discussed a range of funding options. At their last meeting in Nairn Academy councillors and members of the public present took a look at some detailed drawings of how the park would look. 

The funding if approved would be from the Nairn Discretionary Fund, Awards for all and the Big Lottery. The Council plan to work with funding consultant Alan Jones who has been invited to speak to the Subbies at their meeting on the 25th of June. After that the watchdogs plan to consult local residents about their proposals. This observer didn't have a chance to get a picture of the plans but suspects the bairns out in the suburbs would be very interested to see them too once they enter the public domain.

Nairn harbour - piering into the future

Earlier this week we featured an image of yellow and black tape preventing access to steps on the west pier of Nairn harbour and also of damage to the east pier. Time and tide, including the storm earlier this year, have been very unkind to the piers. Since the article on Wednesday we have received some pictures from Murray MacRae that our readers may wish to browse in the slide show below. This observer wonders if Highland Council have any cash budgeted for a little bit of TLC down by on the east and west piers?
