Davy Johnston started his career with Nairn County at 16 and was touted for stardom, but his career was blighted by homesickness and he returned from Hearts after a year - back to Nairn County, where he made his name as a striker.'

Donald will be signing copies of his book at the official launch at Nairn Bookshop in the High Street on Saturday at 11.00 a.m.

Donald Wilson up at Station Park this afternoon with a copy of his new book, Davy Johnston Pittodrie's Silent Assassin. The book will be available from Nairn bookshop on Monday. There will also be an official launch in Nairn on October 16th. More details later.

Update from Donald: A local launch of the book is being planned ( details to follow ) when it is hoped fans and former players who knew Davy will attend. As well as having spells at Hearts, Aberdeen, Nairn and Caley, Davy was also a very successfull manager of Nairn St Ninian for over two seasons.

Donald pipped at the post for annual media gong

Local investigative journalist Donald Wilson is this year's runner up in the 'Reporter of the Year' category in the Highlands and Islands media awards. Nice one Donald, look forward to more of your work making waves in 2010. Gurnites will remember that we linked to a few of his Highland News articles last year, including his deep digging into issues concerning asbestos in Highland schools. Today the Highland press corps will be heading towards Nairn for their annual gathering and awards ceremony tonight.
