Nairn is taking another hit ahead of the big city 16 miles to the West. The Inverness Courier states:
"Workers in Nairn will be affected first, receiving their notices as early as July. Further redundancies will follow in Inverness in January 2012."
The cuts are unavoidable we are told but why is it always Nairn that seems to get the first kick in the teeth? The whole situation with the cutbacks in refuse collections now seems to be clouded in confusion as the size of the pay-offs and the amount of money that might be saved is under question. "At the time it was unclear exactly how many jobs would be axed nor was it known how much money the authority would save, with Colin Clark, head of waste management, admitting the identified £500,000 saving was simply his "best guess".
