The Home Bargains store is open at Balmakeith. Definitely more choice for consumers in the town now and this is the type of store that people travel out of town to visit, jobs have been created too. There are worries however of potential impact on the High Street.
Update: been up this evening and that was a very good experience. Bargains yes, well worth a look and traffic light entry system if things get too busy. Verdict - will be back.

Probably am every time I go online and buy stuff anon. I used to go to Home Bargains in Inverness a lot before lockdown - won't have to do that anymore and there are people in work up there at Balmakeith. I still spend money in the High Street too. Let he without sin cast the first stone.
Genuine question - I've never been to a Home Bargains - what do they sell that you can't already get on Nairn High St, or do they sell the same stuff but cheaper?
Probably a fab place for the next round of panic buying. A lot of stuff you would get in Nairn shops and a lot of stuff you would get in Inverness shops. It's a bit of an out of town experience really, just like Sainsbury's still is to this observer, the sort of place one had to travel a good distance too before. A quilt or a tin of sardines, some grapes or some toys for the bairns, some shampoo or some gardening tools and so on, some marmite or some hand sanitiser...
That's another good reason for ensuring the town centre parking remains free then.
Yes, all of which you can buy in the High Street, what a waste of space. No wonder the ice caps are melting, consumerism has risked the future of this planet, and some folks believe they have "green" ethics?
For the person concerned about environment, the home bargains shoppers from Nairn burn a lot of fossil fuel, emit nasty exhaust fumes travelling to Elgin or Inverness stores. So although not perfect sure is a lot less. Also:
People are employed, thus adding to the economy, lots of items and prices I doubt you can find on High streets.
Was in the other day. Best shop in town now. Great selection and was very surprised to see fresh produce in stock along with items from Grahams just across the road.
This is all under one roof. The less shops that I have to go into the better. All the high streets require these days are butcher, bakery and fruit and veg and not forgetting Tradeway.
