Back to Politics - a two horse race that is interesting national meejah

The other candidates hardly seem to get a mention in the many national press articles that are outlining the contest between Danny and Drew. The SNP are the big time favourites with the bookies but Danny could still be in this if his personal vote holds up significantly.

Here's the Independent's latest analysis of the contest.  Meanwhile out on the streets of Nairn is seems to be the SNP that are managing to get teams of activists out and about.  Anyone else out there campaigning in Nairn please feel free to send us pictures/details of your activities.

Incumbency is very powerful. Danny will keep his seat. Sadly the Tories will also keep power as they will be the largest party in the UK.

I've spoken to different people in Nairn who are going to vote SNP,half of them know what the policies set out are.The rest of them don't have a Scooby do!but they've been influenced by the "Brave heart" syndrome!

Please stop posting this election junk in my door...it comes in the door and goes unread straight to the recycling bin.
I will vote for whoever takes us out of Europe whatever the financial cost....this country has no pride left since we joined the Club of useless and degrading laws.

Unfortunately people do have short memories especially when voting. Anonymous @ 10.05 seems very certain about Danny, a Liberal voter by any chance. Tories in disguise!!!! Also people have not forgotten how the referendum turned out and yes, I was a yes and always will be.

The SNP is likely to do well in Scotland at the expense of the Labour party, if the polls are to be believed. How ironic that the Tories will be the main beneficiaries of this. The Tories will be in Government again and be able to safely ignore Scotland for another couple of generations.

@4:22

Even in the unlikely event that the Tories do get voted back in how does 4 years equal 2 generations?

One of the contributors to this debate is correct. The Tories will get back in if the main challenger's vote ebbs to the SNP in Scotland. As for the number of generations before there is a Labour revival in Scotland is anyone's guess. By the way parliaments are now fixed at 5 years, not 4.

Blue Tories or Red Tories or even the Lib Dems. What is the difference?

It will be a disaster for Scotland if the "Blue Tories" win the general election because the "45" insist in maintaining their collective sulk. Everyone will certainly know the difference when zero hours contracts are the norm.

I agree with 10.54 Mel Gibsons done more for the SNP than any councillor ever has.

Despite the SNP putting 11 of the same leaflet through my door and numerous through my neighbours here in Achareidh,l won't be changing my views.except maybe to the green party.

At local level the SNP,have made very poor judgements not representing peoples wishes at all. Imagine on the world stage Merkel,Obama,Putin,Netanyaha,Assad,Renzi, etc, etc and then heaven forbid Nicola Sturgeon! Be careful what you vote for!

"Sturgeon won the Scottish Politician of the Year Award in 2008, 2012 and 2014."
This year she will undoubtedly be UK Politician of the Year.

Alex Salmond is already taking Nicolas limelight. If he gets into(his favourite dirty word last year)Westminster. She will go well and truly into the background.

As a former Nairnite now living in England it is quite striking how Alex Salmond is still considered by the English media to be the "heavy hitter" for the SNP. I'm afraid wee Nicola hardly rates a mention here. Perhaps Nicola is seen by many as "watching the shop" while he's away down in London trying to play King maker at Westminster.

Thanks for that anon but decided not to post.

Aye, 11:50 is right. Wee Nicola is left minding the shop while the big heid yins go off on important grown up business.
