Christmas Lights, Song and fireworks - thousands of Nairnites seen on the High Street - video

Tremendous community feel about the event organised by Michael Green, Nairn Rotary and the Association of Nairn Businesses. So good to see thousands of people milling about in Rosebank Square and on the High Steet. We should conspire to make huge gatherings down town happen more often!

Re music anon: will do a bit of research on that before putting your post up. I was a bit late getting up and only got there for the fireworks.

It's great to see so many folk out and about with their families for a pre Christmas celebration, I wonder as to how many of those will attend the several churches in Nairn either before or on Christmas day to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, I suspect not very many

I'm sure the majority would wish to thank Michael Green and other business dignitaries for making the switching on of the Christmas lights such an enhanced event from what it used to be with just choirs etc

And I hope many of those attending bought food from The Classroom, was this not the Christmas message?

Thanks for your reply Craisg which is very much appreciated, I have had a look at facebook this morning regarding the event & a good few complaints mentioned there also.

Fireworks were great again. Any danger that next year we could have them along with a bonfire around the 5th November just like other towns in the UK do?

Thrifty idea with the fireworks. They should have got them cheap once Guy Fawkes night was passed LOL.
More seriously, great to see big crowds on the street. There is definitely an appetite for more community events in the town.

Good idea re 5th - does that mean you are up to organise it? The load is best shared and there are many folks in Nairn that would team up with you to make a working group to get it organised and happen!!

That's called passing the buck GiForks.

I doubt you can pretend to have done your bit without disclosing your real identity.

The challenge is there - your idea so make it happen!!

Taken from Facebook. I think you will find that a lot of folk found it to be very poor.

Last night the fireworks were the highlight of the Xmas lights. BUT it could be so much better. Why were stalls not allowed by the council? The choir cancelled but why was there no real back up? My suggestion for next year, start at the town house. Switch on the lights there save everyone have to turn round to see them on. Pipe band then leads the crowd on a March past the local businesses selling their goods up to rosebank Square where there could be music provided by the many local musicians along with Carol singing and ended with the spectacular fire work display. Keeping the crowd entertained for longer than the 2o minutes last night provided. Just my thoughts.

These along with other suggestions can be found on the Nairn Rocks facebook page.

thank you so much for sharing this video, it really brightened up my afternoon. So lovely to see the young people enjoying themselves. Nairn has, from what I can see, a lot of youngsters who will keep the town vibrant and a community worth visiting and living in. The volunteers have again done a fantastic job everywhere in the north of Scotland. Probably elsewhere too. Without volunteers these events would probably be non existent. I did my bit when I was young and really enjoyed getting involved. I made a lot of friends who have become life long pals. So, to those who criticise, albeit constructively, get involved, you might find you enjoy volunteering in your local town. Thanks again, Nairn is truly the place to be any time of the year!
