One of our regular readers who lives in the Merryton Crescent area tells us that she has never seen such an amount of water on the land behind the garage. Yesterday afternoon several ducks looked very happy in the water and were obviously thinking of perhaps moving in for the nesting season.

Hi Anon, where can the information about development land be found? I know there is a sign but it doesn't seem to be specific. Anything online?
When I was younger that area was always under water. Some times the pond reached the back gardens of the crescent and went round to the Lochloy road.
Plans in pipeline at the moment. I have been in contact with the land owner recently.
Obviously a blocked drain somewhere, the rivercourt/maggot flats probably put paid to it, and now resulting in new duck pond. This will certainly suit some ducks with nesting cover close by, for them it's an ill wind...!
Thanks for that anon, but don't think that Swan Island (whatever the merits of it or not depending on your opinion) will be diverting water out of the river that way.
A few straw bales round that and you could have a decent bit of sport when the ducks came flighting in at night!!!
