Performing arts - more use than a town centre supermarket?

Donald Wilson has an interesting story in the Highland News.
'A GROUP of people who would like to see Nairn ditch its aspirations for a town centre supermarket and build a modern performing arts centre instead has recruited Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton to their cause.'

how about co-op making a generous contribution, Calling it the The Nairn Co-op Festival Theatre,
and running a chic co-op fair trade bistro open daily.

What a great idea: at last some vision! There's been too much negativity and havering, while the A96 eyesores just continue to decay. Here's hoping this suggestion will kick start some positive thinking.

Loved this idea when it was first aired and love it even more after thinking about it. What I have to ask myself is this, why are we not hearing any news about meetings with our elected councillors to discuss this alternative way forward, what about the ANB and the Chamber of commerce and the Visit Nairn Group climbing on board the discussion train, what about canvassing comments from the Community at large. what about some lateral thinking in this Town, What about the artistic community in Nairnshire putting in their pennysworth, What about SOMEBODY showing some cohonas about the town Regeneration.

I can picture the scene now in manys a shanghai living room

"I'm just popping down the street, do you need anything ?"

"Aye, get us a P&J from Strachans, a light bulb from Pat Frasers, oh and while you're there can you grab us a 1/4lb of social realist theatre and a bag of contemporary dance from the coopy"

I suppose we should build it really, the Sandown Public Inquiry might need somewhere much bigger than the Community Centre.

I've already spoken to the HC - they can't/won't do anything about the buildings around Somerfield, while Co-op have control of them until next year.

I think it maybe that nobody really knows what the "way forward"is.All because they are so familiar with taking two steps back.
