Last day to sign local woman's ship to ship oil transfer petition

Carol Shaw tells the Gurn that today is the last day that her online petition can be signed. Copies of the petition will be going to the consultation addresses for objections to the proposal from the Cromarty Firth Port Authority's for ship to ship transfers at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth.  Another copy will be going to Richard Lochead MSP.

The petition has now nearly reached 3,000 signatures and is available here.

Standing room only at a recent meeting in Cromarty with people who were opposed to this. In Nairn the best we seem to manage is a shrug of the shoulders

Petitions are all well and good for letting off steam but when has one actually changed anything?

By themselves petions are pretty worthless, but in conjunction with serious objections they add some weight to the objection. In this case I understand that there is a wealth of comments from scientific bodies, proffesional organisations, semi-profesional organisations and individuals against this applicatio.

Exactly, there have been numerous people active in various ways on both sides of the Firth and beyond.
