Nairn 1 Formartine 4 – Large County support stunned into silence

The queue was more reminiscent of a sell-out Saturday as the faithful filed into Station Park. A sense of occasion that was to rapidly turn flat however, unless you were wearing the red of Formartine that is. The Courier marketing ploy will probably fall flat too unless they send a couple of bundles of Friday’s edition out east to Aberdeenshire. Despite a Connor Gethins wonder goal in response to the first two Formartine goals there was to be no way back into this for Nairn. It wasn’t as if we were not capable of playing good football, it was just that Formartine were better organised, stuck to their game and took the points. Elsewhere Clach climbed the table to second place after winning at Inverurie. Looking at the table, there’s still five teams in the hunt but we will have to do better to stay there.
A slightly glum fan base that made its way to the exit at full-time tonight but generally philosophical with some great experiences under the collective belt this season so far and comforted in the knowledge that it is not all over yet. For the fans too a series of fund-raising events is about to start on Saturday with the Coffee Morning in the legion (see ad in the sidebar).

A different genre to look forward to on Saturday with
the Highland League cup tie against Clach at Station Park, it will be another big occasion. We have played Clach twice in the league now and each time the home side won, this Saturday will be this season’s derby decider for the two sides. Another big soccer Saturday at Station Park this weekend.
