Might I suggest that when the weather becomes more clement that we employ some local artists to paint views of the firth onto the path. This would be for the benefit of the majority who now have to walk along the prom head down case be they tread in the prolific brown matter, they would then be able to gaze down at the view they're missing!I sometimes feel as though I'm one of the few people in Nairn who doesn't own a dog.Why not ban all dogs from the links/promenade/beach area so at least there is a small area of Nairn free from the very open and disgusting dog toilet
It's an endless problem, I've yet to read about any solution that works. It seems to be worse in winter when there are fewer folk about and darker evenings, and if dog owners can't even be bothered to try and stop their dogs using the path to crap on what hope is thereIt's one of Nairn's tourist attractions as well as a popular walk for many locals. Dog owners will hate it but I'll be all for restricting dogs in some parts of NairnMaybe are very active and creative councillor Michael Green could come up with a solution
No doubt there will be rerun of the same arguments now. Why ban everyone for because a minority get away with it? Several cars speed through Nairn - ban all cars from the A96?Some kids drop sweetie papers in the street ban all shops that sell sweets? There is no deterrent, the local authority rarely fines anyone and then it would only be £50. Catch a few people and fine them a £1,000 quid and then we would be well on the way to a solution.
Lets ban all dogs because of a few irresponsible fools who can't be othered to pick up after their dogs??Can I apply your sense of logic to a pet hate of mine (pardon the pun) why don't we ban all cars from driving around the town after 6pm that'll sort the boy racer problem.....
Where's the Dog Warden? Surely it wouldn't be hard to catch someone, considering how much crap is on the path!
Gurnmeister you took the words right out of my mouth!Totally agree with the big hefty fines though I think that would help focus the guilty ones :)
I wish people would take responsibility for cleaning up after there dogs.it only takes a minute for them to pick it up and dispose of it.also the enviroment could be nicer if they did it and kids could play safe.do the council provide doggy bags?
I'll all for a dog free area in Nairn even if it's just the beach. It's a huge problem everywhere and I'm sure it could boost Nairn as a tourist attraction
Even if the beach became dog free, much of the problem which is being discussed here relates to the path. As usual, it's a minority, in this case totally irresponsible dog owners, who are getting all the other dog owners a bad name. Pick it up, you lazy b!!!!!!s, it's your responsibility! And not seeing your dog having a shit is no excuse, it shouldn't be so far out of your sight! I agree with Mr Graisg, time to start hitting the guilty in their pockets.
Start by providing a poo bag dispenser like the (now empty) one at Kingsteps car park.
What is particularly annoying is that some of the people that are allowing this to happen are not ****wits from an inner city sink estate. They will be intellegent people with quite good lifestyles who will otherwise, no doubt, have moral values and opinions on what they feel is wrong with society but they are willing to go for a walk along the prom and behave like scum - (yes it most certainly is not the dogs' faults).
Fully agree with your observation Graisg. I know one opinionated Nairnite who walks his dogs everyday alongside the river and the prom, and will happily stand and chat to you for hours whilst his dogs run off and do whatever they want out of his sightI don't like banning anything but I'm going with the call for some public areas of Nairn to be dog free. This winter seems to have been particularly bad for dog mess and takes a lot of pleasure away from my daily walks especially when I tread in the damned stuffI've never ever seen a Dog Warden or a van, and I'm out and about several times a day
I have stopped walking my dog down the beach in fact I have not been there for ages because I do not like walking in poo either. There seem to be fewer and fewer places where I can go now. I know my dogs habits and always clear up after it and it is rarely out of my sight, even when off the lead. I am not too embarrassed or squeamish about picking up the poo. I am not happy with the comment on sink estates since people who rent may well take care of their pets and behave responsibly. There will always be people who do not think that the rules apply to them and I would suspect that more of those people get on in life than do not.
Just rename the town Toilet of the Dogs. Everyone would know where they stood then, and what inAdvertise it as doggy bags not needed. Hardly anyone seem to bother picking up the poo anyway, and even if they do many seem to enjoy chucking the bagged poo into trees etcResponsible dog owners, paths and the surrounding areas speak for themselves and would seem to suggest we have very few
