Vegetation on Swimming Pool roof seriously alarms visitor to Nairn

One of our regular readers tells us that he was stopped on the links and asked by a visitor to Nairn if the vegetation on the roof of the swimming pool was cannabis.

Regardless of the nature of the herb(s) in question (see image above) our correspondent is outraged that a public building should be left to get in such a state. He states that should water find its way into the building because of the blocked rone pipes then there would obviously be considerable cost to the public purse. Our correspondent calls for immediate action by police or the appropriate authorities depending on the nature of the plants in question. He also says that those that enjoy the privilege of earning a salary out of public money and have the responsibility for managing this building should do better.

Time for a community smoke then?

I'm not sure if our Community and Arts centre has a resident handy person, but on a recent visit I noticed a few small cosmetic jobs that require attention soon or it will start to look quite tatty. Shame if no budget can be found for work on our public buildings, especially our newer ones

Maybe they're growing a grass roof?

If you look at the lighthouse at the harbour in Nairnthe the same applies there on the footpath grass overgrown along the side of the barriers. You would think after recent pictures in the Gurn the Council would do something to rectify this matter. Heres hoping they do.

@ Anon re the general standard of maintenance within Highland.

The swimming pool and the library in Nairn are run by an ALO (Arm's Length Organisation) created by Highland Council so their maintenance is a seperate issue from other Council buildings.
You are correct however, the sign above the library is extemely dirty and it would be interesting to know if there is anything in the maintenance budget for its cleaning. It may indeed be at least 18 months since it was last cleaned.
It seems a shame that sign should be left in such a state when many shopkeepers do their best to keep up appearances.

Re. The Library could I suggest a bucket and brush from Nickel & Dime out of petty cash and some fairy liquid from the Co-op / surely one of the staff is capable of attending to this matter?
