The world starts coming to Nairn...

...just had a blether with some of the Hong Kong orienteering team on the High Street. They are certainly looking forward to it, should be thousands more oreinteering folk here on Saturday if predictions prove correct. Should be fun - a once in a lifetime opportunity perhaps and it kicks off on the Links just as the Farmers Show will be winding down so a chance to take in both events.

Not what I was expecting! said...

Out of nowhere, lean, lithe, lycra clad people clutching pieces of paper have suddenly started appearing about the town and just as quickly vanishing.
The Orienteers have arrived!
Good luck to them all, hope they have a brilliant time.

A headline in today's Highland News says it all 'Eyes of orienteering world on Inverness' with many of the athletes camping in Burgh Park. Nairn is but one race track for the event, others being Forres, Darnaway and Glen Affric. The event centre is based at Eden Court. I doubt the event will bring much extra trade to Nairn itself. Maybe the co-opie will sell more energy drinks than Buckie on Saturday night? I understand orienteering is a pretty specialist sport so I doubt there will be a huge TV audience

I notice roads are closed for entry into the fishertown for the race but I assume as a fishertown resident I can drive about with impunity as long as I don't leave the area and try to get back in during he road closure hours. Could make a great car race track
