The Bells - the Bells

Gurn correspondent Vix Sinex heard the bells, he told the Gurn:

"I felt like Quasimodo this morning. Totally stupefied by the clamour of the bells of Nairn ringing out at 0812 to signal the start of the Olympics. This phenomenal and UK wide event was televised and reported on the Scottish news. One can only hope it makes a small addition to the local rag next week."

Personally Vix this observer will not be watching the opening ceremony on television. I found the idea of a Coca-cola lorry preceeding the flame around the country most distasteful and will be a gurny spoilsport tonight. How does Gurnshire feel about the London Olympics, are you interested at all?

I rang my bell this morning - all around the willow tree and in the back garden and on the A96 as some surprised drivers will testify let alone a shocked cyclist (Dave). I'm sure I heard Church bells in the distance but I was a lone ringer around here. I agree the sponsors are a bit over the top with their demands and conditions but that is the economy for you. Some local folk have made huge efforts to help the kids with their sports and must be congratulated I'm sure they will gain huge inspiration from the athletes taking part in the Olympics.

The event in London today is over-rated HYPE, The Bells Nationwide, what does it signify ? The Games !
Before it was War/peace, or Birth of a Royal Heir, so confusing that a Turner Prize Winner decided THE BELLS.

The bells are for ringing in the New Year, and the Olympics (are you allowed to write that word without Lord Coe issuing a writ?) are for London, but they're kindly using OUR money to pay for it

Whose money is paying for the Olympics ? Ask anyone in England-shire what they think of the Barnett formula. This is a fantastic event for GB, you should be ashamed of yourselves, put a sock in it and get behind our athletes.

No interest whatsoever in the olympics. If they were being held in The Farmers Showfield, the real one, I would feel the same, a waste of billions of £s. Even more reason not to watch would be the fish people, Salmon & Sturgeon getting all the freebies and their faces on TV and in the press and in THE GURN for hour after hour. Thank goodness for Blockbuster and a wee dram or three.

I was sceptical but have to admit I am thoroughly enjoying the Olympics and calling on our athletes. Nothing is perfect but I think they are doing a good job.

Must have slept through all the bell ringing...............wasn't I the lucky one.

Salmon and Sturgeon - the Fish People. Wonderful notion!

I suppose that makes our local representatives Colin Mackerel and the Nairn Fishwife?

Do we now watch them floundering around....trying to sort this plaice out.... or herring off to Inverness (stop, that's enough - Ed)
