His idea found instant favour at the meeting of the town's three Community Councils last night and endorsement again among the massed ranks of those attending NICE's meeting in the Community Centre tonight.
It surely would be a goer, often when on holiday in the UK you will be asked to pay for parking and sometimes quite considerable sums if you intend to stay in the one place for the day - a tax on visiting a community and spending some money there really. How refreshing if we could simply point out that we want visitors' money but that they are welcome to park for free before they inject some cash into the local economy?

Free parking is a bonus and yes a sign bringing awareness to this is a good idea. But personally when I've been on holiday and paid for parking at sometimes a considerable cost, I didn't mind because the variety of activities and places of interest to visit during the day made it worthwhile. Nairn is not pulling tourists, holiday makers and visitors in as much as they could for personally I don't think it's using it's full potential to invest in the town, promote and attract people to want to visit by not being creative enough on New ideas for the resources already here.
In principle, a great idea. My experience of the town centre car parks is that during the day they are pretty full of Nairnites going about their own regular business, so could the car parks cope with this influx?
By all means advertise the current 'free' parking but I wonder as to how long this status will remain. There is a desperate need for money for services (witness increased 'parking' fees for Nairn harbour users). Charging for parking in Nairn is no doubt on a list of options somewhere for Highland Council, and although many people will oppose it other towns have parking charges. The danger is that it will be another nail in coffin for our High St
A worthwhile unique selling point for the town. Great idea to promote this. I know some (older)folk from Inverness who come through to Nairn to shop because it is easier to park.
If they do start charging for parking anytime in future i wonder how much would actually be spent on Nairn and how much would go straight to Inverness
