"So come on Nairn join in and let's get our town centre!"

Rosemary Young speaking at the West Community Council meeting last night in the Community Centre:
“I would just like to say how brilliantly NICE have done, I think they have done amazingly well to get where they’ve got. I know they’ve had lots of high-powered meetings with people recently and I know they’re moving into a position where they are going to have money. They are a force to be reckoned with and I do hope the whole town sits up and embraces something that started the ball rolling. There’s a lot of aggro about “oh they’re elite and god knows what” but they are not, they’re just some people trying to do something to give us a town centre that looks good. It’s as simple as that. So come on Nairn join in and let’s get our town centre!”

Is this Rosemary trying to sell us the Trojan horse called NICE?

"There’s a lot of aggro about “oh they’re elite and god knows what” but they are not"

That's because outwith NICE and the West CC the perception is that NICE are elitist Rosemary, and that many of them are part of the dreaded West culture of Nairn.

Is there any truth in the rumour that NICE want to have toll booths at either end of the town and charge the plebs for access?

Nice try on making NICE seem nice, but please wheel your horse back to the West stable

What should the divided elements of the Nairnshire Liberation Front do instead then Anon? I personally am not a member of NICE but appreciate very much that they are putting the debate out there where we need it.
We'll see what their working groups come up with soon. In the meantime perhaps a breakdown of where their 600 or so members live in the town might be useful for all concerned?

Well I'm positively bowled over by the alternative suggestions that are pouring in from those keen to shoot NICE down on the basis of demographics.

Small town mentaility rears it's head again. 'We can't be arsed to do it....but we'll make sure you don't either'....

I don't give a toss where folks come , if they are willing to put effort into improving the town .

Trojan is unhappy at the thought of someone, who perhaps may even be from out of the area , now living in the west end, trying to improve the way the town looks....

Oviously they are quite content to accept predominently indiginous rule for the Highland Council, who, when it comes to grand visions, are happy to sit back and do **** all for Nairn.

Just because there isn't a plan b doesn't mean we have to roll over and accept the proposals of NICE or just carry on as is with Highland Council. Neither side have got it right in my opinion

As for demographics. It's unfortunate that the West of Nairn gets painted in such a way and is a very unfair sweep of a large brush, but historically it seems to be the West CC who after all represent that area of town who are to blame for such remarks

That they want change I believe is good, but in terms of getting the rest of Nairn on board they don't seem to have a clue and use that large brush to rub people the wrong way

Are you talking about our locally elected councilors? Were they not elected to represent the people of Nairn at the Highland Council?

Of course two of them will shut up and do what they are told by their ruling party.

Anyway, a man in the pub told me NICE stands for... (Oh dear we'd better not say that Charlie)

Spurtle once again gets it right: "Small town mentality rears its head again...."

I fear Trojan takes such a prejudiced view because he can't see past that chip the size of a treetrunk on his shoulder.

No, I'm not...I'm talking about the 'machine' of Council , or government; the leviathan that has so much inertia that it is incapable of responding to the needs of Nairn.

I can respect our elected representatives best efforts to forward the interests of the town but they are 4 amongst 80.

5% for us & potentially 95% against....

I'll give NICE a try.
