At last a bit of democratic debate coming up in the Courthouse - Tuesday 10 September 2013 at 10.30 am.

The occasion is the much heralded inaugural meeting of the Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee. This committee is a new one set up by the SNP led administration as a manifesto promise to give back some power to communities. Many observers will be waiting anxiously to see if it is a first step on the road to the promised land of something that might resemble the old Nairn District Council, or will it just become another talking shop, with the real decisions like the South Nairn planning decision still being made in Inverness.

You can see the agenda here. The latest accounting figures for the Common Good Fund are to be presented in a report here.   As for the Social Work buildings another report states that should the Council not wish to accept the NICE proposal for the property then an interest has also been shown by a national charity. The report goes on to say that there is also the potential of a joint project with the charity leasing part of the building from NICE. Also mentioned is the shop formerly known as Occasions (66 High Street), there has been only one offer submitted for the building but it is acceptable according to the officials. The potential for a flat upstairs in that property when the officials presently working there flit to the Courthouse is also detailed. You can read the report here.

This meeting is more than important for the future of our local SNP councillors as in recent months all power seems to be with the council in Inverness and absolutely none here in Nairn

Ha, I wonder if they'll turn up, and if either of them do will they say anything?

I know I'll be changing my vote at the next election. The councillor I'll vote for might be crap but at least I won't have any expectations
