Congratulations to the organisers and all the volunteers at the Nairn Highland Games 2014 - another fantastic event

The weather was perhaps kinder than predicted and the sun even shone at times too as large crowds enjoyed the 2014 Nairn Highland Games.

Tomorrow (Sunday 17th) there is also a large programme of events as the Games weekend is extended with a music festival, the showies will still be there too. Details here: 'Fun in the Sun or Pain in the Rain, either way, it’s going to be a great Nairn day out' - Reunion Sunday - 17th August

I was appalled that the Bandstand was blocked off by vans, generators, signs, stalls and banners. Who decided this? This is a major icon of the Nairn Games. It is a traditional meeting place for people to meet and has been for decades. We've accepted the beer tent, and the burger vans and all the stalls but this truly is a step too far.

There used to be something quite magical to go for a walk after games day and see most of the showies gone, the huge rides dismantled and driven off during the night

I'm all for a music festival in Nairn but give it it's own space and don't try and make the likes of Christmas Day last for two days

There's more to life than making money

Is this a case of "we have a good idea" for ourselves and not a thought for others and what is traditional to others in Nairn. Will it happen next year, time will tell!!!!!!!

Re 12.22 comment, what do you mean? The day was organised by the local councillors? Was it not?

It is organised by a Nairn Events committee and there is at least one Highland Councillor on it and the Gurn believes some community councillors. Besides anything that goes on on the Links has to get past the Common Good trustees in the form of Highland Council.
