I was down at the harbour with my elderly father over the weekend, and noticed the "extra" visitor. I wonder if anyone can tell us what the ships are designed to do? The prow configurations leads us to believe that they are more than cargo vessels but neither of us could work out what they are designed for. Grateful for someone advising us!

According to ShipAIS (scroll down on the Gurn to a link on the right hand side for the ShipAIS site) there are two crude oil tankers; Petroatlantic and the Petronordic, there is also the Scott Spirit which is some sort of tanker which is heading for Nigg.

These vessels are specifically designed to load crude from offshore installations or storage vessels. Functioning as shuttle tankers with higher technical capabilities than conventional crude oil tankers, designed for harsh environments.
